Lagos govt closes down 41 private schools - 09.01.2008
Lagos State government has shut down 41 private nursery and primary schools in the state over illegal operation. The deputy governor, Mrs. Sarah Sosan, said this while reacting to the protest embarked upon by the private school owners at the state secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday.
The proprietors and proprietresses had stormed the secretariat, urging government to rescind its decision but the deputy governor had refused, stating that government could not condone the inadequacies anymore.
According to Sosan, government has identified over 6,000 sub-standard schools that have been operating without approval. “The activities of these unapproved schools are actually doing a lot of damage to the development of the children rather than helping them since most of the affected schools are operating with unqualified teachers,” he said.
She stated that government had found out that most of the unapproved schools operated within uncompleted buildings and residential apartments, adding that government could not tolerate the anomaly anymore.
“Most of these schools combine classes by putting children that normally should be in different classes in a single classroom,” she said.

Some schools have been identified to be some of the best schools in Alimosho L.G.We shall be showcasing some of these schools. We hope that parents would find these to be schools they can enrol their children to have their future secured.
